HP Laserjet M604 slow printing - solved!
An M604 that has been printing fine decides to all of sudden start printing slow.
After dealing with HP and trying various things and performing a cold reset - nothing really worked,
Updating the drivers didn't help - they were not corrupt or accidentally updated by a Windows update previously - but just to rule them out.
Printing from network and printing from usb cable was slow so it was not a network or cabling issue - i thought.
Just to rule out the computer I used completely clean notebook and installed the drivers - same thing.
I did a print menu map from the printers reports page - also extremely slow.
So I decided to completely isolate any network issues - connected my notebook and printer directly with a patch cable (no switch). That works because i assigned my notebook a static ip and my notebook network port supports MDX.
This setup worked - the printer was printing quickly again.
I found this really strange. So i decided let print a menu map report - and that worked also.
So why does this printer print slow when connected to a switch?
Must be a switch problem or the printers network port.
So which is it now - I plug everything into a new 10/100 switch (not Gigabit) and everything works.
So this gives me another clue. I decide to change the link port on the printer to 100 FULL. Connect back to original switch and same thing happens - slow printing.
Put back 10/100 switch and everything works.
So it looks like the issue at this point is a bad ethernet port on the printer.
When anything it connects to is not 10/100 switch it starts working slow.
